52" SONY HD Television KDL-52V5100 and DISH DVR Audio Delay

Post by ilaleary »

I recently purchased this tv from Best Buy and having the following problem: Plays great except when you pause either live tv or prerecorded dvr program. Once you press play, there is a 10-12 second audio delay. The video is fine but the sound takes a while to come in at all. It's hooked up with HDMI cables to ensure the best HD video. If we replace the HDMI cables with RCA cables there is no delay but the picture isn't as good. I bought the TV for the HD qualities so really don't want to mess that up. DISH folks have been back twice and replaced the receiver with the same result so they have concluded that the problem is in the tv. Can anyone help me? Is anyone else experiencing similar problems?

Hi ilaleary - -

Might you kindly elaborate a bit more, please?

Which of the 'DVRs' available @ DISH? ... i.e. - their VIP-722 ?

Surround Sound Receiver involved?

Whenever they made a trial w/ R,B,G Component cabling, in what way or manner did the P.Q. worsen? - i.e.- less bright, fuzzy, etc.? That HAD to be through a different "in" port of that Sony .... was that one also "calibrated" before a decision had been made? { ALL ports or connection 'inputs" must be calibrated separately, one-after-the-next} AND, very FEW of those Factory Defaults will be kept at all.

Qood Quality "RCA" Component Cables should NOT make a visually-discerible difference in P.Q. .... your reference to ...HDMI for the best 'HD" ... ONLY applies to Blu Ray or Game Consoles, Upconverting DVD Players, etc., wherein Much More Data or bits are being "tossed about" / transferred per second - - - NOT the case with normal .. 720p .. & .. 1080i .. broadcasting, however!

Should have tried / used good RG-6 .... here ... item #2773 ... http://www.monoprice.com/products/produ ... 1&format=2

Won't "solve" your issue - BUT - I'll lay heavy odds against that DISH Service - it ISN'T that Sony .... try a "temporary" antenna / watch some 'HD" from O.T.A. & prove that it IS ... DISH!

At the large "risk" of offending Many herein - THAT is the main "issue" I have found w/ satellite service over the years ... whenever they can not or will not "FIX" the problems , it is always ...YOUR TV set ... , as they drive off into the sunset .... often @ $29.99 per each house call !

eli

p.s. - before someone "asks" - - - yes, I definitely AM a staunch / forever Sony (plus Panasonic Plasma since the loss of Pioneer!) advocate ... Ours happens to be their 52" + 40" .. W3000

50"Sony Plasma & Dish

Post by andrewleblanccox »

I have a 2004 vintage Sony 50" high end plasma where connections are made via its media box; this was one generation before HDMI ports. My Dish VIP 722 is connected via an HDMI to DVI plug with separate audio cables. There has never been any issue here with audio and picture synch on any Dish channels, hd or standard. On the other hand, occasional synch problems surface with OTA and/or OTA hd recordings done on D-VHS [JVC machines]. Often it is remediated by stopping and restarting playback, or simply scrolling through the various tv inputs; the D-VHS is connected via component cables. Incidentally, in the New Orleans metro area, virtually all networds are now back, post-Katrina, in 16x9 hd OTA, with one exception, the My network. Oddly, that channel is received in real hd, but a 4:3 picture. The latest network here to go full hd is ION. Sadly, our major PBS station (WYES) degraded the PBS hd channel to 720p by expanding their sub tiers to 3. It once offered the sharpest hd, but no more! NBC and CBS get the top honors in picture quality for OTA and Dish's uplinking of them here is almost undistinguishable from the same in OTA.
