Both NTSC and DTV use the same 6mhz bandwidth so in that sense they are equals. The RF transmission and reception of the broadcast signal remains exactly the same.
Based on the broadcast spectrum, more than one local TV station, DTV requires less bandwidth spectrum because digital provides the capability to put broadcast stations right next to each other unlike analog NTSC which will generate cross interference. That
