Lost picture on Panasonic Th-50PZ77U

Post by carolpopoptonline »

Lost picture- screen just a light shade of red. Set is 13 months old, out of base warranty but under ex -warranty. Other items with the TV are Cable box and Pioneer Receiver VSX-80TXV. Before calling for repair should I bypass AV . Could the AV cause the problem? Thanks in advance. Sound is OK

Certainly doesn't 'sound' good - but - in any case you DO have that backup warranty !

Since it only takes under an hour tops ... consider this .... disconnect that incoming coax cable from the cable set top box & instead, hook it directly to the threaded RF terminal on the rear panel of that ..77 ..

Using Panasonic remote, locate ... auto program / scan ... requires about 40 minutes or so .... this will bypass of all your apparatus & strictly uses that internal QAM tuner --- p.s. - do turn back on the internal speakers temporarily, too. Very weird HD Channel numbering, too.... perhaps 84.4 = NBC / 106.13 = PBS

Good luck.

Eli,
Thanks for the response. I had the same idea of going direct to TV from cable input. However, I decided to first unhook the cable box for a short time and let it reboot. The picture came back on, however for a minute or so all subjects had blue faces, but that cleared up. All is now OK. I called my cable company and they never heard of this problem before. They said if I liked I could swap out the DVR box for a new on. I also called Panasonic. They said that when I had the problem if the screen stayed red thru all the TV/Video options , it's probably a problem with the TV. The screen did stay the same regardless of the input.
I'm going to just monitor the set for a period to see if the problem comes back.
Regards,
Al

Good ! ... I obviously should have mentioned popping in a DVD to see IF that "red" also remained - that would also eliminate all your "stuff" as well as utilize a different HDMI port.
