Samsung QAM HD audio Distortion

Post by rvrichardson »

I would like to enquire if anyone else is experiencing the following issue on this forum and what can be done about it.

I have a Samsung LN32A450C1D LCD TV. I bought it from Circuit City in June of 2008. After setting up the TV it performed very well it is connected directly to Cable using the QAM tuner. After a week or two, we had a power failure and I noticed afterwards that intermittently, I would hear audio distortion on the HD channels only.

I took it back to Circuit City and they changed it. All went well for a couple of weeks and then another power failure. Same thing happened. intermittent Audio distortion on the HD channels. I upgraded the firmware and the problem was resolved.

Then one day I accidently pulled the power cord from the TV instead of the Playstation and the problem started again.

Well to cut a long story short. When power is removed from the set, HD audio distortion starts again. The problem can be resolved by doing a factory reset (holding the exit button for 10 seconds) or reloading the Firmware (in this case you cannot reload the same firmware; you have to drop a version and then upgrade it again).

After a reset or firmware change, all the channels have to be scanned again (roughly 30 minutes of work, not counting programming the analog channel names, major pain)

I spoke to Samsung and they stated that the Unit cannot tolerate power loss and that I should invest in an Uninterruptable Power source (Hmm that can run me $300 - $700).

If a product cannot handle a power loss then it is not fit for consumption! They actually told you such nonsense....?

Sounds like Samsung engineering needs to figure out what is going on and provide a firmware update or replacement of a part. Wow...

I would try again and take it up a few levels if possible or tell them you will take it back and buy a Sony or Panasonic or...
