Toshiba CRT RP 57HDX82 - Screen edges cut off, overscan
I have noticed that on my Toshiba 57XDX82 rear projection that the screen edges and top are cut off. I can't find any adjustments for the horizonal or vertical size. I assume they are on the PCB inside the unit and is there a easy way to get to them?

Best place to start would be with a correct model number... googling 57XDX82 I come up with only one link and the Toshiba site returns a wrong model response....
Either way though the ultimate answer is - doing so would not be in your best interest if this is CRT RP and you simply can't if this is DLP RP.
What problem is your over scan causing?

Toshiba overscan
Yes I'm getting old....anyway its a Toshiba 57HDX82 not xdx. Im a old school electronics tech and perfectly capable of adjusting the dang vertical and horizontal scan, if I could get to it. Problem is like I said the news ticker and things are cutoff at the edges. Just need to be adjusted without paying a million bucks for someone to adjust a couple potentiometers to shrink the dang screen down to fit the edges. Would welcome a little help.

Reducing vertical size could cause the Flash Focus to not work correctly and typically comes with performing convergence. You are definitely old school if you are looking for pots to adjust... those have been gone for about 15 years. Sorry I can't help you with this but there are plenty of resources on the internet to help you accomplish your goal or make a big mess. I wish you the best of luck!

Limited adjustment
On most rear projection sets, you can never completely adjust the overscan out. The way the optics work usually precludes that. The best you can get is usually around 2-4 percent. You need to access the service menu to do it.

Toshiba 57HDX82 Overscan
I found on the web how to access the service menu....but can't find the codes (ADDR) to make the adjustments, is there some kind of secret society or something that you have to join to get them. Man I never thought that technology would make it so hard to adjust a simple thing like sceen size (horizontal scan).

It hasn't yet been mentioned - but - How or What is sending the HD signaling to that set, please?
"IF" by chance a local Cable S.T.B., these also have "readily-available" choices or one button features! {for display sizing}
I.E. our Scientific Atlanta 8300HD uses the "HD Zoom" button for up to (4) selections, each rather instantly.

Eli, his complaint is not related to formatting options.
acronox, what you are complaining about has been that way like forever... you are not supposed to be fiddling with those adjustments. Appears in your search for DIY info you never found http://www.keohi.com/keohihdtv/index.htm , give that site a try...
