Att U-verse vs DirectTv
Thinking about switching from DirectTv to U-verse. I'm happy with the picture on my set up from DTV but Att is giving me the full court press to join up with them. The $$$ savings is substancial but am I losing quality? All the HD channels I view are the same so I lose nothing there in comparison. Just want to have some opinions with Att customers before I pull a plug on a good thing. Your responses are GREATLY appreciated.

You should not see any difference in picture quality - in fact, Uverse might have less compression since it's based on a DSL copper wire connection with fiber distribution. I think the biggest difference will be in the settop box features and interfaces. Changing channels is totally different since you're not receiving all of the channels all of the time like you do with satellite.

AT&T U-Verse

My "offering" is about AT&T U-verse ... nothing to do w/ your current.
In each & every major city yet attempted ... San Antonio, Indianapolis, ... OKC., etc., .... there have been Days & Days of "no service" / no constructive reply by Customer Service / missed appointments / swapped HD Boxes / continuing billing errors & woes .....
Their "DVR" content is Not on your premises ... rather, your shows are recorded / stored on their main computers in a remote, distant city . During a very severe sleet storm here, we were able to view our S.A. 8300HD recorded shows {w/o cable} since these were in the hard drive, naturally.
Only (1) HD channel can be seen at a time within the home, whereas with our now COX & two HD Receivers, each HDTV may watch entirely different HD channels simultaneously, the way it should be, of course!
And, we'll Not go into the hazards of "bundles!" [ telephone, HD, Internet]
For my "vote" - Never, at any bargain price - including absolutely free !

True but they are working on that...Only (1) HD channel can be seen at a time within the home
In the field here in Atlanta what I saw looked pretty shabby - heavily pixelated/noisy, contouring... upconverted DVD looks WAY better than that kind of HD (about 6 months ago).
Viewing distance will make all the difference - 6 screen heights should cover most of it up and at 8 or 9 it will be gone; course going that far will detract from the HD of HDTV.
While it is perfectly capable of wonderful pictures, as always, that all depends on available bandwidth.
