I bought Sony's original Blu Ray player in 2006, paying well over $500 mail order, which at the time seemed a good deal. What I find
disheartening, is the seeming endless firm ware updates for the players. Just a month ago, I requested a version 4.0 update disc,
which never arrived from Sony. A follow up phone call today informed me the update of the week is now version 4.2. When will it
all end? Alghough the majority of my Blu Ray collection plays satisfactorily, I'm never sure with newer titles, like the Jame Bond collection,
if I'll actually be able to start the movie! With the last Indie Jones flic, I could only get the disc started using chapter search! I have no
intention or interest in connecting my player with ethernet to the web and wish the designers of new special features would call a halt
to the interactive features, which seems to be contributing to the majority of problems these days!

Hi Andrew,
I have a Sony BDP-S300 also and I have downloaded and installed 6 updates including 4.2. All of this has been to our favor, there has been major improvement in these firmware updates, all for free. Now mind you, I needed some of the latest equipment to use them, but the progress has been fantastic. What I love the most is the improvement in the sound. If you have heard your disc's in Dolby True HD or DTS-HD MA, you will know what I am talking about. If not you are missing something great. By the way I also have a Sony PS3 hooked to the internet via wireless, there has been so many updates I can not count them. Vast improvements have been made there also and again all for free. Just in case you think I am a young techie ,I will be 70 in February. Update and see what you have been missing. If you have a friend with a computer maybe he will download and burn to CD the latest update for you.

Where are all the Blu-Ray haters that said last year that we'd never see cheap Blu-Ray players?
