Sony KV-34HS510 overscan - Image Off Screen

I have a Sony 34" CRT HDTV model KV-34HS510. The image is cut off on all sides by an inch or more. This is not a format issue. For example, some of Lost Odyssey's (Xbox 360 game) menus are not visible because they are too close to the edge.

A typical computer monitor has settings which allow you to shrink/expand the display, but this HDTV does not. It only has a tilt correction and a vertical correction. These corrections don't scale the image, they just move it.

Can anyone shed some light on how to fix this?

It's called overscan. It's not something that you can fix yourself, but it can be fixed with a professional calibration.

Great. Overscan! I was wondering what to call this problem. When I google "cut off" or "crop", I would always get format issues. Thanks for the help!

So, how does a pro access this calibration when it isn't built into the menu settings? (I'm not going to do this myself, don't worry.)

Just dealt with this problem for a customer with a PS3 and newer games apparently provide a feature to adjust size. To change it on your TV will require a repair shop but they are likely to waffle because your display does meet specs or an ISF calibrator more likely and willing to try but... the overscan may be there for reasons beyond manufacturer autopilot and reducing it may introduce other problems. Never had the request to do that on one of these so I dunno.

When you make a change via the service menu, you're changing the factory presets. If you screw something up there's no easy way to undo it. That's why this forum won't support users accessing the service menus.

... as technically-superb as IS / WAS that CRT by SONY many years ago, now and these next ~ ~ 40 days might well be THE time to seriously-contemplate acquiring another HDTV !!

The (NON 3D) varieties of new 42" and Larger Plasma Sets by Panasonic are quite-competitively priced already @ the Outlet Stores. - - - - close to that fee of a Professional Calibration, in fact!!

For whatever your Viewing and Programming Preferences .... ANY will "look" much-differently upon a new, wide screen plasma set! - - - just suggesting!

"Just-in-Case?" .... I have, in the Past, always been a staunch "SONY" fan and Buyer! ... have also given Many to Relatives as Gifts, in point-of-fact ....

However, the current yet older 52" Sony (LCD) set in the L.R. doesn't quite provide the same "Shadings" // perfect Contrasts // Amazing Detailing // Picture "POP" // etc., as DOES the (9) months old, second Panasonic, in my opinion!
