DIRECTV Launches Four New HD Local Markets

DIRECTV, Inc., the nation's leading satellite television service provider, is now offering local HD programming to customers in 76 markets across the United States with the launch of four new HD markets today. DIRECTV customers in Cedar Rapids-Waterloo, Iowa; Louisville, Ky.; Paducah, Ky., and Wichita, Kan., now have access to local broadcast networks in HD. With the addition of these four new markets, DIRECTV now offers access to local HD broadcast channels to nearly 76 percent of U.S. TV households.

I am in Kansas and they are not '"YET"' offering all the locals in HD ... as of this morning they are only offering ABC, CBS, & FOX
Missing are NBC, PBS, CW, MNT

Another thing is they are not labled '-1' {or the like} to show the difference between the SD & HD channels!

The local HD channels do not have a -1, nor do any of the other HD channels. The exception is for a channel like the Food Network which has different programming on the SD and HD channels; thus Food SD is on Ch 231 and Food HD is on 231-1.
A note: You should be able to hide the SD versions through the setup menu.

Yes I know this but.... both of my local ABC-KAKEDT10-1 and CBS-KWCHDT12-1 at times does have different programing on the HD side than the SD side... KAKEDT10-1 shows the 'enhanced' orignal Star Trek Series late night while the SD side shows info commercials for example...

The HD channels use the regular station id (like WSB) while the SD channels use a city code and number (like AT2). At least that's what they do for Atlanta. They don't need the -1 designation because you're not getting subchannels like you would OTA.
