I have a Mitsubishi WD-62525 that was purchased around November 2003. About January 2006, the tv would show a message about the Timer getting ready to shut down the tv, and sometimes we were able to prevent that from happening, sometimes not (depended on who- if anyone- was actually watching the tv at the time and could find the remote to negate it and was old enough to read and understand the message).
Now, that message doesn't occur as much anymore. Instead, it just turns itself off, and the timer is blinking green for 20-30 seconds, and then the tv shuts down completely. When you turn it back on, there is a message asking whether you replaced the lamp.
At one point, in December 2007, the tv shut itself down with a red blinking status code. I was able to reset the tv to get it working again, but it is still shutting itself down with the green blinking timer light.
Any ideas if that is all the same problem? The set is far past warranty, and (from what I can find) wasn't part of the extension warranty.
Next issue- the tv was giving the error message to replace the lamp. So, it was replaced around December 2006. After it was replaced, there are now 'spots' in the white spaces. They look like smudges. Gloves were worn when the lamp was replaced. To me, it now appears there are even more 'smudges' than when the lamp was first replaced. Does this sound possible (smudges are increasing), and could it be a faulty installation or a faulty lamp?
Thanks.

It is time to call service.

The smudges are likely related to maintenance. All rear projection displays require a cleaning after a while of the optics and mirror. The service center should be able to handle that in the course of the repair.
