Picture freeze up?

I have Motorola dvr with a 120gb hard drive, 50% of the movies I record freeze up about halfway through and then the screen goes blank any attempt to fast forward or pushing any of the other buttons has no effect . I am thinking my hard drive my be the problem, can it be changed?

You own this? It typically is not as easy as just swapping drives... but who knows... one place that might have the answer is http://www.avsforum.com/

If you don't own it then keep your mitts out of it or you will own it; get another one from your cable company.

I own this machine out right, it is motorola DCT6412 and it stops like DVD does sometimes and won't go again or it stops and goes repeat repeat . it seems to be always in the same place in the movie , thats why I think it may be a bad spot on my hard drive .
