Using closed captioning causes loss of HD video

Post by darnett6bellsouth »

I am hearing disabled and must use closed captioning to understand TV audio. I bought my first HDTV in Jan. 2007 (a 27" Audiovox LCDTV), and have been trying ever since to get closed captioning to work with HD signals. However, when I use captioning with high def programming, my video image goes in and out, for as long as 30 seconds at a time, while the audio signal remains. No one can figure this out. Not Sound Advice, where i bought it. Not DirecTV, which supplies the signal. Not Audiovox, which contracts out its HDTV issues to Bangalore. I've read posts here that report similar problems, but have never seen an answer. Can anyone help?

Are you using the CC through the Directv box or the TV itself?

I also was not getting CC on HD but had a problem with my Direct TV receiver rebooting by itself every so often. I got another receiver and now have CC and no rebooting.

I'm using the DirecTV controller to get closed captioning. When I tried to use the Audiovox remote, I couldn't even get CC1 setting to work. I'm on the road and will try enpahl's suggestion when I get back.
