Best in class????

Post by Shane »

Yes, I'm replying to my own post.

From the press release:
Two new 55-inch plasma displays, one H-Series and one T-Series, offering 1.3 million pixels and best-in-class resolution (1280 x 1080) that renders sharper detail than conventional plasma displays
How is 1280x1080 "Best-in-class" when Panasonic has several models at both 50" and 58" that are 1920x1080?

Just a rhetorical question among friends.

Good catch and your concern is well placed! 8)

It is native to nothing therefore all sources will be scaled. There is no other way..

A little clarification from Hitachi:
'Best in Class' refers to the total resolution of 1280 x 1080(1.3 Million pixels) being higher than 1366 x 768(1 Million pixels) products that are found in similar price zones to Hitachi HD1080 products. This terminology relates 'Class' as the price zone for competitive entry level Tier-1 Manufacturer products.
So they're saying "Class" is a price zone, not a size/technology.

Better?

Not really... Hitachi used to do 1024X1024 panels until they changed manufacturers.

It's all marketing language shenanigans

Who is making them? I thought Hitachi had the major stake in the FHP plant. Did they unload it?
