Maybe a better way to ask my question:
Is all DT capable of HD? In other words if I recieve OTA DT from my local affiliates I will receive network HD?
HDTV over air signals

"OTA" = "HD?"
HI - 5:17 CDT
The BEST source for DAILY "HD" broadcasts by each possible source is THIS VERY SITE .... just sign up, select in your profile those which are in your reception --PBS, CBS, etc.. and it'll be e-mailed each morning, early, for all (24) hours. Gives a short description of each program, as well.
Yes, our SONY (like yours) got the locals on "OTA" normal digital this weekend & then went "automatically" to HD @ a specific broadcast ..."being brought to you in HD..."
We changed nothing on the " settings menu " during this. Afterwards, it went back. Look for HD somewhere in the extreme corner or station call letters, too.

You will receive what ever they want to provide in what ever format they want. There are numerous stations that changed over to DTV transmission but only provide the SD content. DTV does not mandate HD, it only makes HD another choice as opposed to SD for the local station.In other words if I recieve OTA DT from my local affiliates I will receive network HD?
More than likely your experience will be... yes, you will get HD.

DT = HD
Thanks for all the help. Watched 2 supposed network HD broadcasts last night. All were 480i. A few calls to my local affiliates confirmed that no HD over DT in my area... not yet. This is a smallish (50k) rural community so I guess it takes a while to catch up.
