Plot ... "To end the reign of powerful mob boss Frankie Costello, a young rookie, Billy Costigan, is assigned to gain the trust of Costello's gang from the inside. While Billy is working to infiltrate the mob, a young gangster named Colin Sullivan is quickly rising through the ranks of the state police. Each man becomes deeply consumed by his double life, gathering information about the plans and counter-plans of the operation he has penetrated. But when it becomes clear to both the gangsters and the police that they have a mole in their midst, Billy and Colin find themselves in constant danger of being caught and exposed to the enemy and each must race to uncover the identity of the other man in to save himself."

Thoughts ... the movie mantained a high tension throughout. I found that it kept me on the edge of my seat never knowing what was going to happen next. A few surprises caught me off guard. Excellent performances by Leonardo Dicaprio, Matt Damon and Jack Nicholson. A worthy candidate as movie of the year. But is it the best ? (I am anxious to see "Babel" and "Letters from Iwo Jima") Recommended with this caution ... there are many very graphic violent scenes.
