JVC RS1 or HD1

Post by HiDeffjeff »

Richard, have you had chance to play with one of these?------ I was wondering just how much of an improvement one would get in upgrading to this PJ from the Panny PTAE-1000U ???? Thanks

I have no real experience with JVC DiLA..

It is nothing more than JVC's version of LCoS like Sony's SXRD version. For the most part it is very similar to transmissive LCD in characteristic response with DiLA and SXRD supposedly providing slightly better blacks over LCOS.

LCOS claim to fame was driven by the 1080P capability early on, 2002-2003, but has suffered from the same lack of dynamic range that transmissive LCD does. On top of that a number of manufactures dropped the technology. DiLA and SXRD is trying to make a go of it and appear to have resolved many of the LCOS manufacturing problems.

I do know that the JVC does not run right unless it is hung off a ceiling. Not recommend for table top applications.

Curiously, what do think you are missing from the Panny that the JVC will provide?

It is said that it provides alot deeper blacks----and you know how we are about getting the best blacks.----- :D Why would the unit behave any differently upsidedown on a ceiling than on a table top?----Makes no sense???

I know mounting definitely affects color temp calibration as that has come up several times at the http://www.isfforum.com/ site.

I recall another comment about intermittent flickering of the lamp unless ceiling mounted. I know you tried 720P DLP, have you considered giving 1080P DLP a shot? What was your viewing distance?
