I have been with DirecTV for 11 years. I taked to DirecTV yesterday and adked about getting an HR20 DVR for $70 since I had been with them for so long. They had no idea what I was talking about.akirby wrote: Or if you're a 10 yr customer with good history you can get a HR20-700 DVR and new dish installed for $70 (or less).

Re: DirecTV HD HR20 DVR for $70 or Less
I just told them I wanted a credit for good service history to offset the cost of the HR20-700 ($320 installed). They gave me a $250 credit on the spot. You also have to call customer retention, not the normal sales number.cmelson wrote:I have been with DirecTV for 11 years. 100 channels for Directv by the end of 2007
According to an ad I read in the Yuma paper from 12-29-2007 Directv had over 85 channels in HD. It doesn't look like they will make their claim of 100 by years end.

DirecTV HR20 & HR20 DVR: Not the same as the newer HR21.
Just a warning for those trying to get set-up with DirecTV LNB-5 Dish plus a High definition receiver with a recording function. The newer model available at Best Buy is an HR21. The precaution I refer to is that their is NO "OFF THE AIR" ANTENNA - INPUT!!
DirecTV figures that it is no longer needed, because in "most" cities you can get the local channels via the dish. What they forget to tell you is that it is up to EACH local station to approve DirecTV carrying their transmission. I live in Portland , OR. which along with the surrounding suburbs has a population of around 1 million people. The local CBS channel, which has a beautiful 1080i OTA transmission, hasn't given their permission. My non- Hi Def. signal is poor, so I need that antenna input. Also, the WB and the other ["non- big 3" + Fox] aren't available either.
SO take care you can't substitute a HR21 for an HR20 DVR.

And for this exact reason, my next HD DVR will be a ViP722. Yep, after 10 years I'm switching from DirecTV to Dish.
No way will I give up my OTA locals for anything retransmitted (cable or satellite).
