New to HDTV

Post by will »

I just purchased the Panasonic 52" LCD Projection HDTV and even though, the colors are vivid, it doesn't appear to be the "HDTV" that I expected. It doesn't really look like anything like it did at the store. Some of the programs are blurry (the digital channels) and all the HDTV channels are not appealing. It appears as though there are lines at the top of the picture and the characters themselves are "long" and stretched out. Basically, I think my old regular, non HD television had a better picture.

I have Time Warner Cable and have changed over to the Time Warner HDTV cable box. I know they had cables for the HDTV but I didn't get them because I already had some. Will that make the difference? If not, what am I possibly doing wrong b/c I am pretty sure that all of my connections are in place properly.

Help! :)

HD "distortion" / reception

Post by eliwhitney »

Mon - 15 Jan-

CHECK YOUR NEW HDTV CABLE BOX -- YOU DEFINITELY SHOULD SPEND THE $$$ AND INSTALL "HDMI" CABLE FROM IT TO THE CORRESPONDING PORT ON THE HDTV. YOU'LL NEED TO RESET THE APPROPIATE "SETTINGS" AFTERWARDS, NATCH. THIS IS ONLY WAY TO GET DIGITAL SOUND / PICTURE. IF THE CABLE BOX DOESN'T HAVE THIS, CONSIDER THAT COMPANIES HD RECORDER BOX - THAT WAS THE ONLY EQUIPMENT FOR COX THAT DID .

HDMI CABLE @ SAM'S FOR UNDER $25.

Do you have your box set up right so it is out putting HD scan rates like 720Por 1080I?

solly's ...HOW TO SET-UP CABLE BOX...

Post by eliwhitney »

Hi--
This set of "posts" seems strange...first one is dated back in Jan..?

Anyway, from no "HDMI" to now, I hope, I understand that Solly has a new service wherein it was self-install a "HD" box??? What Richard was asking, in part, is did you "set" the initial selections within that cable box to those which the HDTV will "see." Usually, at the very first time, we need to plug-in that cable box BUT not turn on that box...now, do turn on HDTV to that box, and either by pushing perhaps a pair of buttons simultaneously on box's console itself, you will get a set on menus on HDTV ...proceed as directed, picking those you want...I.E...720p widescreen, 1080i widescreen, etc, usually up to ( 6 ). As the man said before, glance through your manual or "post" an e-mail to your cable company's web site, perhaps. Good luck.
