I won't argue with your decision to not purchase the new technology. It's your decision.HiTekRedNek wrote:I have compared the picture quality of the Blu-Ray and HD-DVD movies at my local Circuit City and I cannot see anything that would compel me to spend money to buy either. The up-conversion DVD recorder I purchased a few months ago, along with a HDMI cable, equals what I have seen. I feel like this is the way to go until the "BETA vs VHS" wars of the early 21st century is won.
However, there is no way that an upconverted 480i source (i.e., your DVD player) equals either HD-DVD or Blu-Ray input into a properly calibrated HD TV. One starts with 480 lines of resolution and the other with 1080. I have both a Blu Ray (PS3) and a Denon 2910 upconverting DVD player feeding an ISF'ed Sony SXRD. The difference is very obvious. I've joined Netflix specifically to get Blu Ray movies. A few months ago I was very satisfied with the Denon and regular DVD movies. Now I feel "cheated" if I am restricted to a regular DVD.
