Did you upgrade to the latest firmware with your PS3?...If you did, keep in mind the PS3 is loaded with problems...I would try a Sony or Panasonic for 1080p Blu-Ray discs and see what happens...you could always take it back when your done experimenting. Going direct from PS3 to tv should have worked. Also did you set the PS3 to 1080P as the highest resolution in the menu?

A true 1080P input was a fuzzy issue when you bought; it may not take it. Mits did not state what it will accept on their website. I don't recall Mits being one of the displays that will do this for last year or it may have been model dependent.
My PS3 is just fine... Also far better behaved and HDMI tolerant than the Toshiba HDA1 player.
More suggestions...
Bad HDMI cable? (it happens)
Firmware on your TV needs an upgrade for the HDCP
Sony needs a firmware upgrade for the HDCP (unlikely)

The PS3 is updated to 1.32, I believe. It's up to the current network update available at any rate. I haven't really had any issues with the PS3. It's really a great piece of equipment. Fast load times for Blu-Ray and DVD movies and great playback from games. I have had it freeze up once when swapping a game for a movie during boot-up, but I figure it was me just getting impatient.
I've played Ricky Bobby, hey it came with the unit, and Terminator 1 & 2 with no problems other than it playing back at 1080i on the TV.
Setting the PS3 manually to 1080p causes the screen to either go blank when going through the receiver or become garbled when directly connected from the PS3 to the TV.
I have found that there is an updated version of firmware for the TV. I called Mitsubishi today and should have the new firmware around Monday. Supposedly this addresses the 1080p though HDMI issue as well as some other cable card issues and program guide issues. I don't use a cable card and my Comcast box handles programming so I haven't had the immediate need to upgrade the firmware until now. I've read some debates about how the 1080p is achieved on this set, but that's a discussion for another time.
Once I update the firmware I'll post what the current outcome is. The current firmware is V30.007.02, the one current firmware is V30.007.03.
Just curious, would a bad HDMI cable allow lower resolutions? Everything seems to be fine at 1080i over HDMI right now.

A flakey build corrupting the impedance distorting the waveform. 1080P is double the bandwidth of 1080I... This would be a highly unusual problem though... I would look at it the way Chuck does unless I had all my ducks in a row and KNEW what should be happening. Trying another cable is no big deal for me since that is my business.Just curious, would a bad HDMI cable allow lower resolutions?

Hey, wondering if I can pick your brain for a minute . . . I just got the Pioneer VSX-82TXS (similar to your 84, I believe) and I'm going into a Sony Bravia XBR2 LCD display. I want to wait to get into hi-def DVD so I bought an upscaling Samsung HD960 DVD player. HDMI from DVD to Pioneer, HDMI from Pioneer to display. Here's the problem: every 5 to 10 minutes the screen goes black for about 5 seconds then comes back. My buddy has the exact same set-up and he has the same problem. I've changed HDMI inputs on the Pioneer, I've tried all the settings for HDMI, Digital Video Conversion and Resolution (including "Pure") and nothing seems to help. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

well, the thing is, i don't think it's an issue with the DVD player because it plays fine if you go directly into the LCD, it's only if you go through the Pioneer receiver as an HDMI switcher that the problem crops up. i'm just pissed because i got the Pioneer on the assumption i could use it as a switcher and run just one cable to the monitor . . .

See if Samsung has a firmware update...
Really... If that does not solve it then check on the Pioneer. What you are describing is a handshake problem and Samsung has a great repuation for putting stuff out in the market and worrying about the problems later.
Hmm... check that DIRECT button, different model but mine is in the bottom right corner of the remote but I think that had to do with HDMI audio problems... Chuck ran into an HDMI problem related to that feature.

Either you have a bad cable, a cable that is too long, or as Richard said, The Samsung is not handling the handshake well...I have the VSX-84-TXsi and have never had a problem such as yours. I use Panasonic displays (projectors). I even have a 50ft HDMI run from the receiver to one of my projectors.....still no problems.Burger wrote:Here's the problem: every 5 to 10 minutes the screen goes black for about 5 seconds then comes back.
