As far as your PS3 goes, you are "not" getting 720P...
I have no idea what all this AVS chatter is about but I guarantee you it is 720P without a doubt! Mine is set for native output. F1, Genji, Resistance of man are native 720P games. GT HD appears to be 1080P. Bluray comes out 1080P.

The only thing I can think of is CRT RPTV with HDMI/DVI inputs but no 720P conversion... they definitely won't accept 720P... sucks the PS3 defaults to 480P in that case...

Richard...The games may play 720P but if you pop in a Blu-ray disc, it will "not" output 720P...I am positive. I am not a game player and I and many others wanted the PS3 to play Blu-Ray discs at our projectors native scan rate...If that scan rate is 720P, well, you are out of luck... :D

Have not tried that test... dunno...

M'k... think I get it... this is about Bluray only?

Typically you are better off letting the display do the scaling for HD rather than the player... YMMV...

Richard, I still have a 720P projector hooked up in my master bedroom, and "trust me" with the Panny blu-ray player 720P is the way to output...there is no question about it.

That only implies the player is doing a better job of scaling than the display. As I said, YMMV - your mileage may vary... Your experience does not make that valid for all 720P users.

Yes, but this does not excuse the PS3's inability to output 720P...which it should do.... I am glad you like yours...For me it was not a suitable candidate for my home theater.

The basics are there. I'll be the first to agree that the PS3 sure could use some updates... How about not being able to do anything else while doing a download? ARGH! ... or did I miss something...

Keep in mind the 360 has had a year to correct their problems and enrich their online content!

A big thanks to my customer Ken B...

Apparently all Bluray discs come with setup patterns. Load up the disc and when you get the menu press 7669 and enter (the PS3 may require the DVD remote accessory to do this). You will be greeted with a SMPTE color bar pattern and a few others; press track forward to see them. Just found this out, don't know what it means for accuracy, still investigating.

I believe that only works with Discs from Sony. 7669 is Sony spelled out using the phonepad.

Hmm.. it did not work on mine. The Architect and X Men III... Wonder if I need a firmware update... been a good while...

We popped in Tears of the Sun and Over the Hedge, both did it!

You gave up your PS3 and bought a Bluray player right? Does that code work on yours?
