I've been avidly following the developments concerning Paramount's re-master and re-release of all of the original Star Trek episodes. And based on this partial carriage list and decisionmark's program guides, it would appear that the re-mastered series is to be broadcast on WSB Sundays at 2:35 a.m.! beginning September 17th.

Although the re-mastering process from film supposedly resulted in a HiDef result (though reportedly still in 4:3 aspect ratio), the reports are that Pathfire, the syndication distribution company, does not currently have the capability of delivering syndicated programs in HiDef, whether it's Star Trek or any other program. And there have been further reports that most broadcasters have either limited or no ability to store HiDef programs for subsequent broadcast.
With as many years as programs have been broadcast in HiDef, this seems incredulous to me. I've noticed that the re-broadast of many prime time HiDef programs is in standard definition, but I hadn't fathomed that a lack of local storage capaility could be the reason. Can this still be a problem after all this tme?
It's been said that the re-mastered Trek series is better looking even in standard definition. But it seems crazy to not make such material available in the best possible presentation.

Thank you so much for this post. I had no idea...
> HiDef result (though reportedly still in 4:3 aspect ratio)
Thank God! That is the original aspect ratio!
It will be interesting to see if it is HD since they do list digital service for the program. That said, per the link you provided the episodes will be edited to allow commercial time. I sure hope they release this on HD DVD or Bluray in the future.
In the meantime we had just begun watching the complete series on the original release DVDs where there is no compression at all. They look and sound absolutely gorgeous and do not have a dated look at all except for the space scenes. I find the work they intend to do on that level plus fixing scene/story line errors for these remasters compelling!
Happy 40th Star Trek!

Finally caught the remastered Star Trek series...
WOW... Cool Stuff!
Although it will not be in HD until September 2007 the changes are so drastic that even as DTV SD the difference is astonishing.
The premiere show was Balance of Terror, a great example of all they can do to bring this old series into the video present.
All color is richer right down to the buttons on captain Kirk

A PM from member videograbber
Ordered! Thank you so much!I don't know anything about a DH DVD release Wink, but if you meant HD-DVD you might want to check out the set for $50! at amazon.ca.
http://www.amazon.ca/Star-Trek-Original ... 422&sr=8-1
And yes, their Canadian branch sells for way less than their US branch ($115 now), and ships to the US with no problems. There will be shipping (about 10 bucks, vs. free shipping at amazon.com), but it worked out for me. I'd say $60 total isn't a bad deal at all.
Best regards,
- Tim
