FIFA World Cup Soccer in HDTV with DD5.1 sound
Available in Canada on Sportsnet HD and TSN HD (Bell ExpressVu & Star Choice)
Excellent HD PQ ... with the following exception ... when the camera pans during an extreme closeup the background is severely pixelized!!! It is the worst that I have seen.
DD5.1 surround sound ... needs less volume on the center channel and more in the surrounds!

I have only watched the first game on Friday, June 9 Germany vs Costa Rica and part of the game between England and Paraguay on Saturday morning.Richard wrote:Is that the game that was in the morning? I think 9AM EST?
I am currently watching Angola vs Portugal on TSN HD ... PQ looks great. The DD5.1 surround sound is much better this afternoon - the have pumped up the volume on the surrounds ... much better balance. However, it still is not as good as last evening's DD5.1 sound on CBC HD's broadcast of the Stanley Cup finals ... it was outstanding!

The problem occurs when they do extreme closeups on players coupled with fast pans. The entire background becomes a mass of pixels ... looks horrible. They have to avoid those shots ... and today they have. I saw no pixelation during the first half of the Angola/Portugal game.
Funny thing happens with the sound on EVERY game ... at about 44 or 45 minutes into each half the DD5.1 shuts off ... goes to prologic. It is almost like the sound is on a timer!!!

Superior Telecasts in Canada of FIFA World Cup!!!
Due to technically difficulties TSN HD had to switch from the international feed to the ESPN HD feed this afternoon (Portugal vs. Netherlands - June 25) ...
WOW ... what a tremendous let down. Inferior sound ... only prologic vs. glorious DD5.1 sound. Too much crap at the top of the screen ... really distracting! UGLY graphics!!! Inferior commentary. The PQ was even not as good. Sorry to those that are stuck with ESPN HD!
The ESPN's telecast equaled the ugliness on the field ... poor referring and ugly incidents .... over 20 cards issued ... 4 reds!
Thank you TSN HD and Sportsnet HD for giving us the FAR SUPERIOR international feed!!!!
If they would broadcast the English 1st Division games in HDTV with this type of quality I would watch them (and I am not a real soccer fan) ... but I will NEVER watch even one of them in 4:3 SDTV!
