Lord of War - PPV Bell ExpressVu VuHD

Post by hidefbob »

Recorded on Bell ExpressVu's HD PVR ... PPV VuHD4 Channel 833
HDTV with DD5.1 surround sound ... OAR

Plot ... "Chance leads Yuri Orlov to realize his true calling - illegal arms dealing. With his brother in tow, Yuri exploits the deadliest war zones, staying one step ahead of his conscience, his competition, his dangerous clientele and the relentless Interpol agent bent on bringing him down."

HDTV picture quality ... excellent
DD5.1 sound ... excellent surround sound ... almost too realistic at times when the bullets were flying!

Stars ... Nicolas Cage

While this is a very disturbing movie, I do recommend it. It is an unfortunate reality in the world we live in today. The movie is based on actual events. And as the movie points out at the end ... the worst gun runners are the major governments of the world.

Footnote ... if they would just make more of these recent movies available in HDTV on PPV we would not need Blu-ray or HD DVD!

Can't agree with you there... with an HD disc this movie would look slightly better but the sound would vastly improve. Sounds is where they really shave bits! I guess because it is easier to get away with...

I guess the problem with broadcast HD is the amount of compression which from what I have read we will not get on the high definition DVD's. Hopefully, one system will quickly gain the advantage which will make the choice easy. I think the key (for either system to make into into the general marketplace) will be which one gets the most movies into the rental stores first. Or both systems could gain no more success than D-VHS.
