The above are lamp based displays that require proper cooling of the lamp so you will get the maximum life span the lamp has to offer. When you turn your TV off you may have noted that it stays on for about 1-2 minutes. That is the cooling down process of the lamp.
In the past and still today many TVs have an auto on function that is triggered by merely applying AC power to the set by plugging it in or in this example having the TV plugged into a cable or satellite box. By turning on the box the TV gets turned on. When you turn off the box the AC power is removed from the TV and will not be able to cool off the lamp. This will greatly reduce lamp life.
