UMO Jazz Orchestra: One More Time - SACD

Post by Richard »

100% DSD recording from capturing to mixing to mastering. Absolutely awesome delivery for a sonic delight.

Musically it is like classical music for jazz orchestra. The first selection is a four part concert followed by 4 shorter individual songs. Style varies from rhythmic to laid back with 60's jazz fusion at times. At first it seemed kinda blah but after some adjustments on the volume control and a few more listens it is growing on me.

Compression: minimal (turn up the volume on this one for killer dynamics)

Lordy, lordy guess what I found out? This SACD will not play back in SACD. I don't have another player to test it in. I doubt exchanging it will cure the problem.

I still stand by my review. None the less if I can't get it to switch over to SACD I would rather invest my $20 in another title as I am no UMO fan making this a must have.

Surprise, surprise...

For other reasons I decided to go through my system and check all my connections plus pull the Sony for a good cleaning. Now the disc works in SACD. I found no layer of dust or debris on the optics but I did clean 'em so it must have been a film or something.

If this was great in CD what about SACD? Well like any other SACD you get better dynamics and a whole new recording of the exact same songs played the exact same way but like it was done with different instruments with different equipment in a different studio producing the net effect of simply sounding better and far more like real music.

It's a keeper :D
