House of Flying Daggers - DVD

I highly recommend this movie to demo your home theatre sound system - Widescreen Review said of the sound track ...

"Bass is intricately constructed, with many scenes that will provide strenuous tests of your subwoofers

This is a gem! Spectacular audio and video. The "Echo Dance" scene now replaces everything else, including the Matrix helicopter scene as the demo standard. Wish I hadn't sold my second sub. :)

The whole series of these films keeps improving. Crouching Tigers (or is it hidden dragons?), Hero and now this. One better then the other.

I would easily recommend this movie to any martial arts enthusiast. That said we all felt the hype surrounding this flick was way over the top. While it clearly excels in sound, cinematography and highly detailed images leaving me yearning for the D-Theater version the screenplay and a few of the fight scenes left us with the feel of old chop socky flicks, me thinking of Kill Bill and all of us amused with the final fight sequence. I guess the hype had me expecting something like the Last Samurai or Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. I personally do not think this movie is quite to that level of overall performance.

If there should ever be an HD DVD, WMVHD or D-Theater version I want to see and hear it again!

Sorry Richard I have to disagree with you on this one ... I have to agree with Roger Ebert - House of Flying Daggers rates 4 stars out of 4. I think it is better than Hero and certainly better than Crouching Tiger.

It is interesting that I was never able to find any Chinese people in this city who thought Crouching Tiger was a good movie!
