Conan O'Brien goes HD!

Post by AHDTV Board »

It looks great. I also noticed that WXIA analog has the show in
letterbox format.

For those of you that went to bed early:
He devoted a good 5 minutes to pretty funny HDTV jokes. He joked that
there are more Samoans in America than people with HDTV's. He also
joked about 16:9. He stuck his hands out and they briefly cut on the
edges to emulate a 4:3screen so you couldn't see them anymore and said
"see what you were missing?" Also zoomed in on his hand and asked if
a dermotologist with HDTV could tell him whether or not he had skin
cancer (or something like that).

I am a big fan and caught the second night of Conan in HD! This was a great HD educational program with lots of laughs.

Overall this is exciting stuff! The producers are actually using the whole 16:9 screen putting Conan on one side and the guest on the other. Film clips are no longer portrayed as letterboxed 4:3 so 1.85 and 2.35 releases will now cover your screen just like the DVD would. Localization in the sound stage is greatly improved as well as the overall response. The SD NTSC version is a letterboxed version retaining the full frame of the HD presentation.

Thanks guys!
