In the Heat of the Night- HDNet Movies (1967)

Post by donshan »

This Best Picture Oscar for 1967 with 5 academy awards ( including Best actor Rod Steiger and Best screen play) has been played many times on TV. If you have not seen it it is a MUST!. If you have it is still good again.

Here is one of the best films of all time in my view in great HD and OAR. One of the few movies Lenonard Maltin's guide gives a 4 **** rating.

This movie is not only a very good murder mystery, but it is set in the racial troubles of the 1960s in a small town in Mississippi.

A strange black man( Sydney Poitier) is picked up as the "obvious suspect" until it turns out he is a homicide detective from Philadelphia and his Chief loans him to the southern sheriff to solve the crime. The sparks then begin to fly as the two men sort out BOTH the crime and racial issues of a black detective on the case.

This film made it possible for all the other great black actors the followed Poitier ( like Denzel Washington) to follow in positive leading roles.

And a great music score by Quincy Jones to boot.

...and I did. This movie was awesome and still works today as a period piece. While it seemed predictable my predictions were mostly wrong. Very enjoyable and highly recommended!
