Sony: KDFWE50655 and audio options

Post by homerhd »

I came across a small twist when connecting my Sony tv to my home theater. I used both the optical out as well as the analog audio out connections since only digital signals use the optical and you need the analog audio for the analog stations. The manual tells you that the tv speakers need to be set to "off" in order for the analog audio out jacks to be active. What they don't tell you is that the tv volume setting must be set to at least "1" in order for the signal to be passed through. I had set the tv volume to "0" since I knew I would never be using the tv speakers not realizing that this setting would kill the analog audio out even if the tv speakers were set to "off". Hope this helps anyone going through what I went through.

That is actually a common feature with the purpose being that you can use one remote, the TV remote, and still control the volume. While convenient it is recommended for casual listening only. You will get better sound by connecting the audio directly to the receiver and using the receiver volume control.
