chuckken,
Like you I have a HR10-250 and am considering a DVD burner for occasional stuff we would like to keep. I have never used one of these burners, so maybe you could answer a question that the link you provided hinted at, but did not answer.
Are these DVD burners multi-session? For example, my wife is interested in a scrapbooking program on the DIY channel. I am copying short 5 minute segments of programs to VHS tape to keep just the parts of programs she wants, leaving out the rest. Is it possible for her to have a Scrapbook DVD with each program segment added over several months as a separate chapter that can be indexed to find it later?
Actually I want a HD DVD burner and maybe that is what those USB ports on the HR-10-250 are for. But that is another topic.
Thanks,
Don

The answer to that question is yes. (BTW, I decided to keep the LiteOn- 5005) This is a small section from their web site>>>[Picturalized Title Search Having picturalized title index for each video program recorded, you can easily select any video programs at a glance. No more time-consuming title search as in the old days. Furthermore, with DVD recording, you can now name each video program]<<<....When you start the DVD in a player it brings up an index...square boxes with a picture of each segment and you just highlight that box and go!...It's awesome...(I too will pounce on a HD DVD burner as soon as they come out)...but getting back to your question...yes with the LiteOn you can do this...and I'm 99% sure it can be done with the Sony as well...I have individual segments of Christian shows in half hour segments on a 4 hour dvd...I just click on the one I want to watch and thats it!...I have finally got the LiteOn working and it's awesome!...There is no waiting...Just pop in a DVD+RW and hit record and thats it...(With the DVD+RW discs there is no finalization required)...with these units you can even have them record automatically from your TiVo...either at the same time your recording to hard drive, or you can set up your TiVo to "save to Record" at a later date...The key with any of these burners is to find a DVD player that is compatible with this particular LiteOn-5005...(I finally have found a web site that has a list of compatible players...(basically it just needs to play MP3 and have MPEG2 capability) My Pioneer plays everything fine, but I had to go buy a couple more that were compatible...One for my car and one for the bedroom... you can also make CDs to listen to in your car...Your car player needs to be MP3/CD-R/RW compatible...I have been recording off the 800's channels on Directv...For LiteOn web site go here...

There is alot to learn with these things, but when all is said and done, it's worth it...
...(BTW, the LiteOn does more than the Sony for less money).
