After seeing Chicago all I could think about was All That Jazz and to my amazement it was released for the first time on DVD a month later. I have finally had a chance to pick it up and watch it.
It is the musical depiction of Bob Fosses own life directed and written by Bob Fosse. Still a timeless classic. It is the story of director and choreographer Joe Gideon who pushes himself physically into a heart attack and his exchange with the angel of death Angelique about his life. I used to know this movie by heart in 4:3 so to see it in high quality DVD with 1.85 certainly was a treat. I had seen the 1.85 laserdisc version yet do not recall being as impressed but my display quality has changed greatly since then.
The only bummer was the stereo soundtrack which for the most part seemed more like mono. Either it is the master or simply not much concern was placed on this when the movie was made.
Highly recommended!
