Looking for Richard - Showtime HD

Post by Richard »

This is a pet project of Al Pacino to create a documentary of Shakespears play King Richard in an attempt to make Shakespear more accesible to the 21st century and better understood by actors and the public.

WOW! This was a gripping means to connect me with this play write icon and what makes Shakespear boring has been removed entirely leaving an intriguing tale of greed and personal corruption acted to the hilt by Pacino and a cast of well known actors. I dare you to fall asleep. While it is not the complete play the interweaving tale and the history behind it is entertainingly explained. The main climactic scenes are filmed with interspersed comments that really drive home what is happening making the language of Shakespear clearly understood.

I'll take more Shakespear delivered in this fashion! Highly recommended!

PS. While not an HD production it has clearly been mastered to be faithful to the original. It appears this was composed with professional SD video cameras.

I get a little nervous when they "remove the boring parts." The way they do things these days in order to appeal to the masses makes one expect to see a Macbeth production done entirely in rap fashion. That being said, I'm now lookig forward to seeing this movie.

Don't misunderstand that. Watch the movie and please tell me what you think. That comment was based on how the lines are delivered and also a screen presentation allows the actor to do a better job since it is not necessary for his voice to carry out into the audience.

No rap, hip hop or other fake modern marketing device is used. It's pure Shakespear and it's all in the delivery and understanding the background of the story to put it in context...

What comes out in spades is at the original time frame those watching it would have understood the context.
