Target to Feature Sony Blu-ray Disc Player

Stores Also to Expand Selection of BD Movies


Sony BDP-S300SAN DIEGO, July 26, 2007 - Beginning this fall and continuing at least through the holiday season, Target will feature Sony® Blu-ray Disc® players as the exclusive product in the emerging category of high-definition home video systems, as well as an expanded assortment of Blu-ray Disc movies.

"We're extremely excited that Target chose to carry Sony Blu-ray Disc players," said Randy Waynick, senior vice president of Sony's Home Products Division. "Target's decision to add Sony's Blu-ray Disc player to the shelf, in addition to the already available PLAYSTATION® 3 video game system, illustrates how this leading retailer is in tune with American consumers who are interested in the latest high-definition technologies."

The Sony BDP-S300 Blu-ray Disc player will arrive in stores in October as part of a holiday feature endcap that will clearly communicate the consumer benefits of the Blu-ray Disc technology. The endcap will also feature an expanded list of movie titles from a variety of Hollywood studios.

"Target's decision to promote Blu-ray Disc players in the fourth quarter sends an important message to those who may still be sitting the high-definition fence," said David Bishop, president of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. "Their guests rely on Target to merchandise solutions that enhance their lives and they rely on Sony as one of the most trusted electronics brands to offer the best technologies.

"This promotion from Target and Sony will lend further credibility to the benefits associated with Blu-ray Disc technology."

Couple this with Blockbusters recent announcement and I'd say we're just one or two more corporate announcements away from checkmate and an end to this senseless HD format war. I'm glad to see that the superior format may actually win out this time around
