I recently bought a Panasonic TH-50PZ700U 50" Plasma, and a Panasonic blu-ray player DMP-BD10AK, at the same time I bought a DVE calibration DVD... Will it matter that it is not the HD version? Should I wait a few hundred hours before calibrating? Has anyone heard of this product, and is it worth having? http://www.pixelprotector.com/index.php

Congratulations on your most elegant equipment ! It will be very special.

Go to the Panasonic web site ...input "break-in FAQ..." & then 'view'..plasma.. It will explain what needs to be done w/ your initial settings during the very first 100-200 hours. It is for the most part straightforward, no partial screens, down w/ brightness-contrast, no Games, No Fixed displays, etc., during this interval.

Then, apply that set up DVD - a bit more "confusing" perhaps but the latest HD version by Kane has more, including filters, etc., if one might like to get more involved - recently released.

I have all three of my TV's calibrated and I waited until they all had at lease 100 hours on it. I had Eliab from AVICAL.COM come out and do my calibrations the DVD you got is not going to do the job you want it to do. I'm telling you and I mean this when we spend what we spend for our H/T to not get it professionally calibrated is crazy because once you do everything you wanted in your picture is perfect. It will be money well spent you will never be sorry for getting your TV calibrated. Every show you watch has a perfect picture you never have to touch your buttons to fix colors NEVER and he also does your DVD player which buy the way he calibrates your Blu Ray player after his done you will be blown away. Check out the testimony's on his web site from people who's TV's his already worked on. I found him just like this and I'm glad I did he was worth every penny. To me to spend what we spend and then not get the picture to be perfect is foolish so check it out you won't be sorry. GOOD LUCK

I agree 100%. Eliab does my RP-CRT and the picture is incredibly perfect with unbelievably deep blacks, natural skin tones and gorgeous colors. I have the calibration discs also; it's not the same as an ISF calibration by a professional. But get some recommendations - I wasn't impressed with the first ISF tech I hired years ago.

So far, at least, no one has mentioned or included these 'calibration visit costs !'

For multiple sets done all simultaneously, certainly, there would be "volume discounts."
But, usually, a single visit can represent $200-$400...

Another factor - NOT on every brand, certainly - But, whenever those internal settings available during a pro calibration are 'changed / altered' - and, this is Not referring to the very many seen with with the Remote, of course - that HDTVs warranty may be also "altered" as well.

So, reconsider these various HD DVDs before 'assuming' that one can not achieve perfectly adequate results for many HDTV viewers.

Not all "Pros" are as skilled / legitimate / conscientious as our Richard, either.

Once again thanks for the feedback. As far as I know so far, we don't have anyone in my area that can do a calibration. So unless someone is willing to drive 2-3 hours for it, I may have to go the dvd route and see where I end up.

I searched the listings just to double check right after that reply, and just as I thought the closest one is about 3-4 hours...
