Live Earth is on Universal HD. It started over night. although it has been having transmission problems.

Love the music, love that it's in HD, HATE the damn propaganda they shove down your throat.

There is propaganda during the show? Can't imagine that. Since that is what the concert is about. Let's see climate change. In reality the only propaganda that has bugged me is the anti nuke power shirt that John Butler was wearing. Nukes now that there is a storage facility to house the waste is 1 of the ways to reduce CO2 emissions.

I'm not going to get into political thing here, and this whole thing is all about politics, because it's not the proper forum.

I am enjoying the music, but one thing about those who produce these concerts for TV that has always driven me absolutely crazy is the way they do those rapid camera cuts. My philosohpy, whether it's a concert, sporting event or any live event, is to treat the viewer as if he were there watching the show live. If I'm there, I'm sure as hell not looking at the crowd watching what I want to watch. I understand some perspective is necessary, but come on! It's like they do a camera 1,2,3,4 cha cha routine over and over again. All I know is that when Shakira is dancing, everybody in the house has their eyes riveted to one thing.

So you don't like the the TD's calls, huh? BTW you may not be getting political but you are getting into an area that would have as much controversy as the politics. On the big screens in the stadiums the crowd is watching the same feed as we are getting.

Those folks are usually too far back to see anyway and besides, I'm sure they have the same complaint that I do.

The TD's calls? I assume you meant the director by that and no, I hated them and he's not alone there, as every concert or film of a concert except Scorsese's Last Waltz does it too. Just stay on the main focus of the act and sprinkle in the other stuff.

TD as the subject of the post stated is Technical Director. The TD is term the TV industry uses that is the same as a movie set director is. As far as staying on topic this is the topic the discussion of the Live Earth show and the political aspects of it which are part of the show can be mentioned as well. Why not it's part of the show & I did start the thread.

Although I was watching on CTV HD, I have to assume we were getting the same feed as you.

I have to agree with Tombanjo, I don't like the rapid camera changes either. But PBS Soundstage does the same thing! HDNet seems better to me, staying on one camera longer.

There is a time and place for rapid camera changes ... that how I was taught when I took a professional video course at the Sony school in Hollywood. But the live concert I believe is not one of those. How do we get the message through to these technical directors to stop it?

By the way, how was Universal HD when it came to switching venues? CTV HD bugged the hell out of me at times rapidly switching from one to another right in the middle of performances! Admittedly they only did that with the minor acts, staying with the headline artists from start to finish.

Convince them that MTV style TV sucks. It's the "IN" style you know.

The feed for CTV must have been somewhat different in that UniHD didn't switch locations in the middle of any of the acts.

One way to stop it is to covince these guys that they are not the show, that they are not the artist, but merely reporters of the event. Fat chance though, as with all the gadjets at their command and the freedom to use them they would probably feel guilty if they didn't push a lot of buttons.

VH1 Classics has old concert footage on from time to time (it would be great if they would give out the date of the concerts) and I just scrolled through four that I recorded.

The Police, Siouxsie & the Banshees, Blondie, and The Faces (with an extremely young looking and great sounding Rod Stewart.)

All four TD's were very faithful to the shows and except for some psychedelicized (must have been required stuff for the era) moments, all you got was the same view as if you were there.
