Newbie scaler questions

I'm looking at buying my first HDTV, but since I will still be watching lots of SDTV and DVDs on it I want to get one with a good upscaler. How do I know if the scaler in the HDTV I want is a good one or not? This doesn't seem to be advertised well at all.
Also, do HD cable boxes typically have better or worse scalers than the HDTVs?
Or am I making too big of deal of this? I'm looking to get probably a 50" Plasma HDTV.
Thanks.
This is a difficutly question,,

Because there is no easy answer
Some HDTVs do a very good job of upscalling, some do not!
If your looking at Panasonic plasma they do a good job.
The cable box may do a better job of upscalling or it may not.
I have a Panasonic DVD burner-VHS combo with HDMI output is dose a good job of upscaling.
Sadly this is a trail and error thing, you try different settings and see what looks best to you.
A year ago I bought a CRT-RP set because it dose a excellent job with SD video.
But they are almost completely gone from the market now.
You may have to insist that the sales people show you SD video on the HDTV set before you buy. John

Does any know if there are any HDTVs with the DCDi scaler? I've read this is one of the best ones.
