HDTV Problem w/ PS3... Help

I have a 65" Toshiba HD TV, approx 4 years old. When I plug in the ps3, there are light colored horizontal lines that continuously move up the tv screen. This happens regardless of the input used on the television (Component or composite), and regardless of the resolution set on the PS3. The lines are very noticeable when the screen is darker in games and movies, but they can still faintly be seen all the time. Does anyone know what is causing this and how to stop it?

Thanks for any help.

It sounds like your TV may need to be repaired if you are getting the same or worse with other sources. This should not have just come up though and should have been there to some degree prior to your PS3.

It is only w/ the PS3. I have tried the PS3 on other televisons, and it works fine. On my toshiba tv, I have a HD Cable box and a DVD player, and neither one have the problem w/ the lines.

hmm... a ground loop? Does the PS3 have a two pin AC plug or three pin?

3 Pin, and I have it plugged into a Monster Power HT700 power strip w/ the TV, which is only 2 pin

Try an AC ground defeat adapter for the PS3 AC cord - this gets rid of the that round extra pin and that is the ground. These are common as dirt and easily available at hardware stores or electrical sections of department stores but may not be found at your local Circuit City or Best buy type retailer.

I'll give that a try and let you know how it works out. Thanks.

Thanks a million... that fixed it. One last question: Is there any harm that can be done by changing the plug from a 3 pin to 2?

Thanks again for your help.

That is a complex question that is difficult to answer but if you want to try and figure out what the problem is...
