Newbie question

Hey guys,
Nice place you have here.
I am thinking buying a new HDTV the begining of next week. I understand most of it especially as I live in Japan and have to translate words I don't know in English.
Anyway, what is a D1/D2 or a D4 the TV I am getting a TV that has D4 but my PSX has D1/D2. Whats the deal with them?
Also, I have the option of a few TV I have narrowed it down to two. They are the same but different sizes. One is 27" and the other is 32" They have the same aspect ratio but the size is just different will it make a big difference in the quality. If I have the smaller one then I should look better as the same amount of pixels in a smaller place. It's just a TV for bedroom gaming so size isn't an issue.
