"Shot in the Heart" on DVD

Plot ... "Based on a true story, in January 1977, Gary Gilmore is about to become the first convicted murderer to be executed in a decade. His youngest brother, Mikal Gilmore, can help prevent the execution, but first he has to get to know the brother he barely remembers. Deep in the bowels of a dark prison, they discover their shared past, born of a brutal father and raised in a family haunted by death, religion and superstition."
This an HBO movie based on the book of the same name by the brother Mikal Gilmore ... the only one in the family that is not screwed up! Essentially the movie is a character study of the two brothers. There is a tension throughout the movie brought on by old family wounds.
The movie asks some hard questions about capital punishment , because Gary Gilmore seems to be enjoying the celebrity status that he is getting. You get the feeling that he thinks it would be a "bad career move" to stop the execution!
I thought it is a thoughful and compelling movie and recommend it.
