We loved this Bobby Darin story with a fabulous performance by Kevin Spacey. Sound was top notch, and with all that music in the film, that was really a bonus. This wasn't just a straight up bio pic. They added layers of depth by having Darin as a young boy almost mirroring the adult Darin throughout the story. Sort of a flashback in real time, a very interesting vehicle.

The cast was top notch too, with Bob Hoskins and John Goodman. Unfortunately for Goodman, the poor bastard will never overcome being type cast as Rosanne's husband Dan. At least in my mind anyway. Too bad, because I really like the guy. Maybe he should just stay in that Dan Conner character in whatever he does. Is it a stretch to imagine that somehow Dan Conner ends up managing Bobby Darin? Now there's some material to work with. :)

One thing I forgot to mention in my Beyond The Sea post was how deeply dissapointed we were when, as I figured most people would, we rushed to the special features tab to check out the real Bobby Darin in some old clips the DVD would surely provide. But there was NOTHING! Maybe the Darin estate refused to release any video, but still, a big dissapointment in an otherwise great DVD.

We finally got to see this the other night and I loved it. The only caveat is this is far more of a musical with the artsy delivery as Tombanjo stated rather than a dramatic affair like Ray was. I definitely thought of films like Chicago and All That Jazz while watching.
