hello, i live in the UK and hd television broadcasts launch here early 2006. i own a denon avr 2105 receiver and i'm worried if its futureproof - it has a host of digital optical and coaxial audio inputs but no iLink. theres talk here of iLink becoming more common for digital transfer of hi-res audio and i just wondered how americans connect their multichannel amps & receivers to their hd television source? thanks.

Most of the time, Amps are connected via Optical or Coaxial. We see very little iLink.

iLink is too new. Few products support it and the ones that do are pricey. Also it is only a concern for SACD or DVD-Audio. Movies will continue to be optical and coax for many more years to come.

my concern about audio inputs seems a little insignificant now having just read another post in this forum - i just learned hd dvd and blu ray will launch with new dolby and dts formats (predictable, i know) so my receivers days are numbered anyway. the latest format on my receiver is dts 96/24 is there any chance this is compatible with hd dvd or blu ray?

thank you for your earlier replies.

Fully compatible...

Do you have 5.1 or 6.1? 6.1 is the center rear channel. Not totally necessary as few movie soundtracks use it.

........Do you have 5.1 or 6.1?

7.1, there is amplification for 2 centre rear channels and my full list of decoding formats is: dolby digital, dolby digital ex, dts, dts-es matrix 6.1, dts-es discrete 6.1 & dts 96/24.

my internet researching has left me a little confused, i've read dolby digital plus and possibly mlp lossless will be mandatory on hd dvd and blu ray but given all the information above will i be able to decode these new formats with my current receiver? from what i've read i think yes - could you confirm?

I pretty sure that the Denon iLink is only only works with Denon players.
