Merchant of Venice - DVD

A merchant makes a deal with a Jewish money lender for the oddest of terms so he can provide his best friend the capitol necessary to be a suitor of the most beautiful Portia. Clocking in at 130 minutes we both found the first 70 minutes to be somewhat dragging yet those 70 minutes are necessary to set up the final 60 minutes consisting of 2 major climaxes in the plot that had us going WOW!
Personally I wish Pacino had more influence on this project as we were thoroughly impressed with his production of Looking for Richard that makes Shakespear clearly understood and completely entertaining for modern society. That may have made the first 70 minutes far more palatable...
The images though are not that great. Much of the production carries an overall green tinge and many scenes simply have the wrong colors creating a very odd presentation. Whether by design or by error I do not know. I do know that I popped a calibration disc in the player for confirmation as things looked broken...
Either way, recommended!
