Soon you will be receiving a full review of the Zenith DVB318 HD scaling DVD player. This in-depth review will take you places no other magazine has taken you, at least as far as I know. While some in print or the internet have touched upon these areas none have included all the waveforms or data that clearly reveals what for accurate performance is correct and what is not.

Source component reviews are performed using an oscilloscope and available test patterns with a final subjective review of the image using an ISF calibrated display that at minimum has correct color decoding, a color temperature +/- 400 degrees as referenced to D65, minimal edge enhancement, accurate geometry, and a high contrast 960 line response. For these reviews a Mitsubishi WS65819 will be used as the reference display. As this unit offers RGB on/off switching it will also be used as an inexpensive way to make objective color decoder evaluations. For video signals a Hitachi 100Mhz oscilloscope is used with a 10X probe. Waveforms and on screen images are captured using a digital camera and edited with Adobe Photoshop.
