Onkyo TX-SR602 receiver question, or similar A/V receiver

Hello all. I just purchased this unit and was wondering if anyone else was having the same problem as I am: I can't get the remote to control my Hitachi TV (I don't recall the model, but its a 4 year old 53" widescreen). For that matter, it won't control the satellite, CD player, or DVD (only some functions) I have tried all of the codes to no avail. The Onkyo 602 also has a learning remote (point the 2 remotes at each other to learn the code) and this doesn't seem to work either.

It could be that it is defective, but I thought I'd ask around before shipping it off.

Has anyone experienced the same, on this model or other supposed consolidation AV receivers? I guess that I could purchase a full-blown consolidation learning remote, but I would almost think I would run into the same problem.

Thanks for your input,
Kevin

Kevin - sounds like either the remote is defective or you're not programming it correctly.

I would highly recommend getting a Harmony 659 or 680. If anyone else in your household (wife/kids/parents) needs to use the system this will make it foolproof. Push one button to watch TV or another to watch a Movie or yet another to listen to Music or play a videogame, etc. And you don't have to program any macros. You just tell the harmony what models of equipment you have and how you select the inputs and then for each activity (watch TV, watch a movie, etc.) you tell it which devices are needed and which inputs and it automagically does the rest for you (and keeps track of inputs and power states).
