HDTV: Closed Captioning

I need cc, closed captioning, in order to follow shows due to hearing loss that causes me to miss a few words here and there, even with hearing aids. My Samsung 360 with Toshiba HDTV displays those few HD stations (such as HBO and Showtime) that include captions. However, my main living room set up of the Zenith 520 and Hitachi HDTV show cc on these HD stations all jumbled and can not be read. ABC and CBS OTA HD broadcasts show cc well on both units. Is it the 520 set top box receiving the D* signals or the Hitachi itself that is the cause of the problem? When I switch over to the non-HD HBO or Showtime airing of the same show, the cc comes in fine. Also, will cc ever be shown on stations like DiscoveryHD or HDNET?

CC with HD sources is processed and displayed by your STB not the TV. CC with SD sources is processed and displayed by the TV.

CC with HD is not always available but it is greatly improved over what it was 1-2 years ago. I suggest contacting Discovery HD and HDnet with your need for CC.
