Tivo: Loss of Subscription when totaled

Just got off the phone with a local customer who suffered a lightning strike losing a Tivo and RPTV.

If your Tivo is not repairable and you have paid a lifetime $249 subscription you will lose it if you purchase the entry level unit for $149. After debating with them they did make an acception for the customer but that requires he purchase their upper line Series 2 with an MSRP of $399 and street pricing of $349.

Just an FYI...

Did the customer receive another TiVo and get the subscription re-instated?

That's one of the advantages of the DirecTV Tivos. No subscription required, just an additional monthly fee from DirecTV.
