Fast and the Furious

It was fast but not very furious.
In the end it seems like somebody said, "I really want to do a fast car driving street racing kinda movie" and a flimsy story was provided to prop up the action. It did receive two thumbs up from Siskel and Ebert curiously and while it wasn't boring it was also highly unbelievable and out of place. I'm also not a big fan of the flashy constantly bouncing race directing with all the shots of shift gear levers and foot work. Driven also follows this same line of art to a degree but that is a movie with more substance and in better touch with reality that I would watch again unlike this one.
Ironically I finished watching Indy after this movie and was relieved to see clear racing action without all the manly testosterone and gang banger undertones.
While I don't feel it was a waste of my time I also don't feel I would have missed anything. D-Theater added to the experience yet I would have rather invested that money in a different title and rented the DVD instead.
