I have a LG LST3410A DVR. I use it with an antenna. With the digital transition complete , do you know what channel it is using to download the TV Guide Programming in Zip Code 46902 or how to find out? Thank you.

BUT - LG has removed 100% of the data about your unit.

Perhaps a more "expedient" means would be to fill out their Email & do as you already have here, too.

TV Guide programming for the LST3410A still works. I used to get it from the PBS analog broadcast which disappeared about a year ago but reappeared several months later. For information about the LST3410A you should go to the AVS Forum. Under HDTV recorders there is a very long discussion thread (now about 207 pages long) entitled LST3410A Reviews and Discussions. Do not start from the beginning page which started in December 2003 but from the end page and work your way back. They mention that the LST3410A uses TVGOS to supply the guide and that CBS digital stations (at least in some areas including mine) make it available if you can tune to them.

I still don't have it working. LG was no help. TV Guide says I have to buy a converter box & hook it up to it, which makes no sense. It's a set top conversion box on it's own. Most other sources says that's not true.

The latest discussion in the AVS forum indicates that while TVGOS is now transmitted digitally, the problem
with the LG and some other OTA DVRs is that it only handles analog guide information. Oh well, I can still
record manually.

I'm recording on mine manually, also. But, it's a pain - 30 minute recordings & having to label each.

So, with your comment, maybe what TV Guide said is correct. What do you think?

"Now that the digital transition is complete, your TV Guide will not continue to work because it can not work off the digital data. You will need to get a converter box that will be able to convert the TV Guide data into an analog format for your TV to read to still display TV Guide listings. To our knowledge, EchoStar and Artec are the only companies that manufactures a box that passes our data (This is not a recommendation or endorsement of this product).

That is absolutely correct. In spite of being able to tune both digital and analog signals, the LG was designed to be obsolete from the start, since it can ONLY extract TVGOS data from an analog signal. Those are gone now. But TVGOS has a digital version, which many CBS affiliates distribute.

The 2 special boxes they listed, while also being DTV Converters (which you don't care about), also have a feature that allows them to be translators, converting digital TVGOS data to analog TVGOS, which is what your LG needs to see.

This is the ONLY way you'll ever get Guide info back (i.e., there are no other options), however, there are no guarantees that the translated TVGOS will work for you. The problem is that there were more than one version of analog TVGOS (v7, v8, v9?). Some broadcasters transmit only one version, and frequently that version isn't the one that the LG wants to see. If you spend a bit of time in the AVS discussion thread mentioned, you'll find some people spending a HUGE amount of time trying to figure out any contorted way to get this working... and not having much luck.

Pick up a DTV Pal Plus converter box in case a way is found to make it work, check in on the AVS forum periodically to see if they managed it, and in the meantime, suffer with manual settings on a DVR that LG knew would be obsolete when they sold it. They removed all information on the unit from their website because they want to wash their hands of it. They have no interest in supporting it, or doing anything whatsoever to assist their customers in any way.

Personally, that makes me want to run out and buy lots more LG electronics products... NOT!

Before trashing LG a quick question? Are they the only TV Guide enabled DVR or HDTV having a problem with DTV only broadcasting for guide data?

When connecting the DTVPal pre-converter box, do I connect it to the Antenna connection or the cable connection?
If I use the cable connection, what signal type do I select for the box?
