OPPO DV-983H and soon to be released OPPO Blu Ray BDP-83 produce a finished 1080p conversion of all sources, as well as high quality audio including DVD-A and SACD. So I want any prospect HDTV to simply monitor and display the OPPO HDMI output without any further processing.

I have searched SAMSUNG 52 A650, 46A950, and SONY KDL-52XBR6 reviews and downloaded user manuals and not found mention of capability to monitor and display externally processed video and audio inputs. Audio should be easy: I would mute the TV and input the OPPO audio out via "multichannel" high quality RCA inputs on my ARCAM FMJ 8 processor-controller, which passes them through to the amplifiers, like the ARCAM already does for SACD and DVD-A.

I have also tried "Contact Us" on SAMSUNG and SONY web sites, but have so far not received any replies.

Please comment. I want to upsize and upgrade from my SONY XBR 32 1080i, and obtain the advanced DOLBY and DTS audio which accompanies the 1080p video.

If the TV is getting a 1080p signal and it is a 1080p set, it will do absolutely nothing to that signal since it doesn't have to. I assume that is what you mean by the monitor function. If you want native processing of a 24fps Blu-Ray signal, then you will want a set that also handles that.

"All of the pre-specification stuff I could find online notes that it will be a 1080p, 60Hz output. I'm not trying to be argumentative, but that's what I've seen.

But since you requested a direct answer, we can deliver!

Samsung currently does not accept anything more than 60Hz into any of the inputs on our televisions. Neither have we announced any plans to do so. Also, to the best of our knowledge, no other full television (display with tuner) will accept it. There may be some front projection product or large format computer displays that do, but not retail, integrated televisions.

Just because a display accepts 1080p dies not mean the video is left untouched; same for 1080p 24 frame.

For 1080p 60 frame more than likely nothing is being done with current product. Nearly all 1st generation product converted to 1080i and about half of the 2nd generation did as well. For 24 frame you would have to confirm the removal of film judder to know for sure. I have heard there are a number of 1080p displays that accept 1080p 24 but use 2/3 pull down to convert it to 1080p 60.
